The Issue

One Nation, United Against Political Violence Like so many Americans, I am weary of political violence. It divides us, weakens us, and dims the promise of our democracy. Each incident — whether a threat, a protest turned violent, or an attack on public officials — chips away at the trust we need to live together as one people. But there is a way forward. Imagine Democrats, Republicans, and Independents standing together to make one simple but powerful statement: political violence has no place in America. A bipartisan commitment — whether through a resolution, a proclamation, or a joint statement — would send a message of unity that could not be ignored. A Personal Note I’ll admit something: I too have been caught up in the anger of these divided times. Like many others, I’ve lashed out in frustration. But I know I can do better — and I believe we all can. Our leaders should reflect that same understanding: even in disagreement, there is no excuse for violence. The Facts We Cannot Ignore In 2022, the FBI reported 9,065 hate crimes in America — the highest in more than a decade. Threats against public officials are skyrocketing. The U.S. Capitol Police investigated nearly 10,000 threats in 2021. Both Republicans and Democrats have been targeted. Political violence does not belong to one side or the other — it threatens everyone, and it undermines our democracy itself. Who We Are Calling On This petition is for leaders at every level — federal, state, and local. Every elected official has the moral responsibility and the public platform to take a stand. In Congress, Republicans and Democrats could co-sign a joint resolution condemning political violence. In every statehouse, governors and legislators can issue bipartisan proclamations. At the local level, city and community leaders can show that unity is possible in our neighborhoods. Wherever they serve, our leaders should join together to send one clear message: violence has no place in our politics. Why This Matters Some may dismiss this as “just symbolic.” But symbols matter. They remind us that our leaders are still capable of coming together for something larger than party loyalty. A bipartisan statement against political violence would give Americans hope and show the world that we can rise above division when it truly matters. What You Can Do Sign this petition to add your voice. Share it with friends, family, and coworkers — change starts when enough people demand it. Contact your representatives and urge them to join in condemning political violence. This is not about being Republican or Democrat. It is about being American. Our Call to Action We, the undersigned, call on elected leaders at every level of government — from the President and Congress, to governors and state legislators in all 50 states — to join together in a bipartisan statement condemning political violence. Not one side. Not one party. One united voice. Let us begin now. Let America show the world that despite our differences, we can still stand together as one nation. Sign today — and help make it impossible for our leaders to ignore this call.
