Petition on keeping the department of education
The Issue
Trump signed an executive order to dismantle the department of education in march. Getting rid of that will impact a lot of students and teachers and bring more discrimination and students will not learn things they are supposed to. Trump has been anti public schools and has been getting rid of funding for them. He’s also been allowing ICE to go into school for raids which is so dangerous for students.
Education is a right for all and should be something that everyone should have access to. For me education is very important because these are things that you need to know. By dismantling the department of education it will take away from peoples school experience and impact what students learn in school. Taking away the department of education will impact students across the country and will bring more discrimination and students not being taught about things they need to. Having uneducated society will only help with their corrupt way of thinking. https://www.nea.org/nea-today/all-news-articles/how-dismantling-department-education-would-harm-students
He wants to “bring the power back to the states” meaning the states have control over what their school systems teach. A Lot of people in power in different states like Texas and Florida are very conservative and do not want to teach about LGBTQ, there's a “Don’t say gay” law in Florida which they don't want to be in their curriculum and be in the classrooms, They don't want to teach kids in younger grades about sexual orientation and gender identity. But when the states have their own control over what is being taught and so they won't teach certain things that may be “unpatriotic” or “unamerican”.https://www.npr.org/2024/03/11/1237730819/florida-dont-say-gay-law-settlement-lgbtq
Overall I think the department of education is very important to students all over america. Knowledge is power and having an uneducated society will be better for Trump but not good for us.
Support your local school, attend board meetings, and advocate for your teachers and your peers!
