Have you paid attention to your recent Zia Utility Gas Statements from November and December 2022? Well....you need to!! 

On December 1st, we received our Gas Usage Statement for our home in Ruidoso, Lincoln County, NM. We noticed that our amount due was almost 4 times the last bill in November and almost 10 times what was due from October. 

We began researching and found that our gas cost rate had changed from .5865 to .9474 in October. That is a 61.5% increase!!! The overall rate changed from .84 to 1.202 which is a 43% increase.

The PRC of NM only approved a 28% increase to go in effect in October 2022 for 17 months to help with the cost of gas. We expected a higher bill but not a bill almost 10 times the previous bills.

We called Zia Gas to address the issue of the exorbitant rate increase and they could only say that they get their gas from Texas (would not tell us what company) and their cost of gas has increases and we're passing on that cost increase to the consumer. Listen....it DOES NOT WORK THAT WAY! They must get approval from PRC to increase rate and they only got the approval for 28% and not 43%! 

This is illegal and a perfect example of price gauging! Especially since they have done this at a time knowing there would be an increase in consumer demand due to colder temperatures.

We must stand up and be heard to force the PRC of NM to address this and roll back the rate to what was approved and nothing more!!
