Petition: Launch of Sydney to Vijayawada Direct Flights
The issue
Petition to the Civil Aviation Minister of India for Direct Flights Between Sydney and Vijayawada or Code-sharing Flights Options
Honourable Civil Aviation Minister,
We, the members of the Andhra Pradesh community residing in Sydney, Australia, collectively submit this petition to bring to your attention the urgent need for direct air connectivity between Sydney and Vijayawada, or alternatively, the establishment of code-sharing flights between Bengaluru and Vijayawada or Delhi and Vijayawada or Singapore and Vijayawada. This initiative is crucial to address the significant travel demands and enhance bilateral relations between Australia and India.
Sydney, the largest city in Australia, is a hub of cultural diversity, economic prosperity, and academic excellence. It serves as a major gateway not only to Australia but also to the Asia-Pacific region, attracting a diverse range of visitors, students, and business professionals. In Sydney, approximately, 50% of Indians are native to the state of Andhra Pradesh. Vijayawada, located in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh, India, is a burgeoning city known for its historical significance, cultural heritage, and economic dynamism and connects to Amaravathi, the nascent capital of Andhra Pradesh. Despite the geographical distance, there exists a strong connection between the Telugu-speaking communities in Sydney and Vijayawada, encompassing familial ties, business relationships, and cultural exchanges.
Currently, the lack of direct flights between Sydney and Vijayawada poses numerous challenges to travellers. The absence of a non-stop air link results in extended travel times, increased costs, and unnecessary inconvenience due to multiple layovers and transit delays. This situation not only affects individuals and families but also impedes economic opportunities, tourism growth, and educational exchanges between our two nations. Even the community suffered a lot, to travel to Andhra Pradesh from Sydney in the recent Andhra Pradesh Elections 2024. But this did not deter us from voting in the elections. You and other elected members are the beacon of hope we've been waiting for.
Considering these factors, we respectfully urge the Ministry of Civil Aviation to consider the following proposals:
Direct Flights Between Sydney and Vijayawada: Establishing direct flights between Sydney and Vijayawada would significantly reduce travel time and enhance convenience for passengers travelling between these two cities. This initiative would cater directly to the growing demand from students, tourists, and business travellers seeking efficient and comfortable travel options.
Code-sharing Flights: Flights between Bengaluru-Vijayawada, Delhi-Vijayawada, and Sydney-Singapore-Vijayawada. Alternatively, facilitating code-sharing agreements between airlines operating Sydney-Bengaluru (QANTAS), Sydney-Delhi (Air India) flights and Sydney-Singapore (Singapore Airlines) with flights connecting to Vijayawada would provide a viable interim solution. This would allow passengers to transit through Bengaluru, or Delhi or Singapore seamlessly, minimizing travel disruptions and optimizing travel itineraries. Code-sharing contributes to a more connected and efficient global air travel network, benefiting passengers and airlines alike.
Economic and Cultural Benefits: Enhanced air connectivity between Sydney and Vijayawada or through Bengaluru or Delhi would bolster economic ties by facilitating smoother business interactions and promoting trade and investment opportunities. Additionally, it would promote tourism by encouraging more visitors to explore the cultural, historical, and natural attractions of both regions.
Educational and Academic Exchanges: Direct or efficient connecting flights would facilitate easier movement of students, researchers, and academics between Sydney and Vijayawada, promoting educational collaborations and enhancing academic exchanges between institutions in Australia and India.
Environmental Considerations: Direct or efficient connecting flights would contribute to reducing carbon emissions associated with multiple layovers and transit flights, aligning with global efforts towards sustainable air travel.
Support from the Andhra Community in Sydney: Vijayawada being at the Centre of Andhra Pradesh, this initiative of direct flights or code-sharing flights will benefit everyone of Andhra Pradesh community living in Sydney. The Andhra community in Sydney is united in its support for improved air connectivity between Sydney and Vijayawada. This initiative is not just a matter of convenience but also a reflection of the deep cultural and familial ties that bind our communities across continents.
In conclusion, we humbly request the Ministry of Civil Aviation to consider our petition favourably and take proactive steps towards initiating direct flights between Sydney and Vijayawada or establishing code-sharing options through Bengaluru. This strategic move would not only meet the increasing demand for efficient travel options but also strengthen the bilateral relationship between Australia and India, fostering economic growth, cultural understanding, and global connectivity.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. We look forward to your positive response and the realization of this important initiative for the benefit of both our nations and communities. Jai Hind!
