Petition for Transparency, Fairness, and Accountability in Iberia Parish Assessor's Office

The Issue

We, the residents of Iberia Parish, Louisiana, demand immediate and corrective actions from our appointed Tax Assessor, Ashlie Spiker, to uphold our rights to transparency and fairness in the property tax assessment process. As 2024 marks a critical tax reassessment year, it is essential that every property owner receives their revaluation notices, regardless of any changes in valuation.
Our Demands:

  1. Immediate Distribution of Revaluation Notices: We insist that revaluation notices be mailed to every property owner in Iberia Parish, as is the practice in other parishes, even if there is a 0% increase in the property valuation. This will ensure that all residents have the necessary information and are afforded the opportunity to contest any adjustments.
  2. Explanation of Misuse of Public Funds: We require a detailed explanation regarding the use of public taxpayer dollars to finance what appeared to be a political advertisement during an election season. This action not only raises ethical concerns but also questions the integrity of the office.
  3. Resignation of the Interim Assessor: Due to these actions and the breach of public trust, we demand the resignation of Ashlie Spiker from the position of Interim Tax Assessor. We seek leadership that reflects the community’s values of honesty and responsibility.

The strategy to not communicate directly with all impacted homeowners undermines our trust in local governance and appears strategically timed with the forthcoming November 5th election, where Ms. Spiker seeks to continue in her role. This lack of transparency is unacceptable and threatens our ability to fairly contest changes that may affect our financial well-being.

Join us in signing this petition to ensure that every resident of Iberia Parish receives their property revaluation notice promptly. It is our right to be fully informed, to prepare adequately, and to contest any adjustments that we deem unfair. Together, let’s demand fairness, transparency, and accountability from our local government officials.
