The Issue

We, the undersigned members of the Palmerton community, are calling for immediate transparency, fairness, and accountability regarding the non-renewal of Assistant Coach Jamie Tomsic of the Palmerton Girls Wrestling Team.

This decision—reportedly made by Assistant Superintendent Dan Heaney, Superintendent Angela Freibolin, and Athletic Director Justin Petersen—was carried out without public explanation, without due process, and without direct communication to Coach Tomsic himself. We are deeply concerned by reports that this action stemmed from an unverified accusation and was decided behind closed doors, excluding not only the affected coach but also the rest of the coaching staff, student-athletes, parents, and the broader community.

Equally troubling are claims that Head Coach Joshua Rake was warned his own position could be jeopardized if he advocated for Coach Tomsic, raising serious concerns about intimidation and retaliation within the district’s leadership.

Coach Tomsic has played a vital role in the success, development, and culture of the Palmerton Girls Wrestling Team. His removal, without explanation or opportunity to respond, undermines the values of fairness, integrity, and respect that our school district is expected to uphold.

The impact of this decision is already being felt. Student-athletes have expressed their intent not to return next season if this situation is not addressed. Parents, community members, and even the athletes have voiced outrage and concern, as seen during the recent school board meeting.

We, therefore, demand the following:

-A full and transparent explanation of the decision not to renew Coach Jamie Tomsic’s contract.

-An opportunity for Coach Tomsic to formally respond to any allegations made against him.

-Assurance that no retaliation will occur against staff, including Coach Joshua Rake, for advocating fairness.

-A review of the decision-making process to ensure it aligns with district policies and ethical standards.

-Reconsideration of Coach Tomsic’s position based on a fair and unbiased evaluation.

Our student-athletes deserve stability, honesty, and leadership rooted in integrity. Our coaches deserve due process and respect. And our community deserves answers.

We stand united in support of fairness, transparency, and the future of Palmerton Girls Wrestling.
