PETITION TO THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS AND SUPREME COURT

TO: The Honorable Members of the United States Senate and House of Representatives, and the Justices of the United States Supreme Court

SUBJECT: Urgent Action Required to Investigate and Remedy Constitutional, National Security, Economic, and Democratic Erosion Under the Trump Administration (2025–Present)

We, the undersigned American citizens, respectfully petition for immediate and coordinated action by the Legislative and Judicial branches of government to safeguard the Constitution, national security, economic stability, and democratic values of the United States.

I. BACKGROUND AND CONTEXT

Since January 20, 2025, the Trump Administration—led by President Donald J. Trump and prominently influenced by private-sector magnate Elon Musk—has instituted sweeping structural changes that have critically weakened the checks and balances of American governance. With Cabinet-level Secretaries and Directors executing policies with minimal transparency and in direct conflict with Supreme Court rulings, the current administration has endangered constitutional order, economic stability, and national cohesion.

This petition seeks to hold accountable the Executive Branch’s leadership—including all Department Secretaries—whose actions have collectively exacerbated threats to our democracy. Each Secretary has played a role in facilitating a system of executive overreach, rollback of civil rights, disregard for international obligations, and abandonment of fact-based governance.

II. SPECIFIC CONSTITUTIONAL AND DEMOCRATIC FAILURES

1. Executive Overreach and Legislative Circumvention

• Rule by executive order and policy memos without Congressional oversight.
• Secret coordination via encrypted apps and unofficial channels to evade public accountability. 

2. Defiance of Judicial Authority

• Noncompliance with Supreme Court decisions.
• Appointments of agency heads who publicly denounce constitutional norms and refuse court mandates.

3. Weaponization of Federal Agencies and Militarization of Policy

• Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth’s removal of experienced officials and installation of ideological loyalists.
• Use of military assets in domestic political events.
• Unauthorized foreign military strikes (e.g., Yemen) coordinated via private communications.

4. Cabinet-Level Failures and Departmental Mismanagement

• State Department: Withdrawal from longstanding diplomatic partnerships and diminished global influence.
• Treasury: Deregulation favoring elite interests, with weakening of the IRS’s enforcement ability.
• Education: Rejection of federally protected DEI initiatives and curriculum censorship.
• Interior and EPA: Deregulation of environmental protections, increasing climate-related risks.
• Homeland Security and DOJ: Enhanced surveillance powers and reduced protections for asylum seekers and protestors.
• Health and Human Services: Repeal of key public health regulations, endangering community health during emergencies.

5. Civil Liberties Suppression

• Repeal of protections for minority groups, LGBTQ+ Americans, and immigrant communities.
• Authoritarian tactics used against government whistleblowers, educators, and journalists.
• Implementation of loyalty-based federal employment standards.
• Widespread First Amendment suppression through targeted social media takedowns, government influence on platform policy, and retaliatory legal actions against dissenting educators, journalists, and students. Academic institutions have faced political reprisals and funding cuts for tolerating or defending freedom of expression critical of the administration.

6. Denial of Due Process and Unlawful Deportations

• Cases of American citizens and visa-holding individuals being detained and deported without due process.
• Deportations and detentions disproportionately targeting racial and ethnic minorities and critics of administration policies.
• Failure to respect legal protections and immigration status, including removal of individuals engaged in constitutionally protected protest or speech.
• Collusion between ICE, DHS, and DOJ to suppress opposition through intimidation and extrajudicial actions.
• Economic Inequity and Global Repercussions
• Rising inflation due to protectionist trade policies.
• Diminished investment in green infrastructure and technology.
• International investors withdrawing from U.S. markets.
• Increased national debt due to defense spending spikes and tax loopholes for the wealthy.

 III. ANALYSIS OF PETE HEGSETH’S TENURE AS SECRETARY OF DEFENSE

Pete Hegseth’s appointment marked the politicization of the Pentagon. Since confirmation, his performance has included:

• Removal of seasoned leadership under the guise of ideological cleansing.
• Elevation of unqualified advisors.
• Reversal of climate-related security assessments and termination of DEI policies in defense agencies.
• Weakening of military readiness by politicizing unit cohesion and force diversity.
• Deployment of troops in response to domestic civil dissent.
• Economic costs stemming from accelerated weapons programs and international instability.
• These actions have weakened allied confidence in U.S. strategic commitments and emboldened adversaries such as Russia, China, and Iran.

IV. WEAPONIZATION OF TARIFFS AND ECONOMIC CONSEQUENCES

The Trump Administration has increasingly weaponized tariffs as a blunt tool of foreign policy and domestic economic coercion. While promoted under the guise of protecting American manufacturing, these measures have had severe consequences:

1. Immediate Domestic Effects

• Significant cost increases for American consumers on imported goods including electronics, machinery, and everyday essentials.
• Strain on U.S. farmers and exporters due to retaliatory tariffs from key trading partners.
• Manufacturing sector volatility and supply chain disruption.

2. Macroeconomic Risks

• Increased inflationary pressure due to higher import costs.
• Market uncertainty driving away foreign investment and weakening consumer confidence.
• Potential contraction of GDP growth and rising unemployment in trade-reliant industries.

3. Long-Term National Consequences

• Diminished international credibility as a stable trade partner.
• Migration of multinational firms to more predictable regulatory environments.
• Undermining of U.S. leadership in global trade negotiations and WTO processes.

4. Global Economic Disruption

• Tariff wars contributing to global market instability and recessionary trends.
• Escalating tensions with economic allies including the EU, Japan, and Canada.
• Weakening of cooperative trade coalitions and global strategic alliances.

The cumulative effect of this tariff-based approach risks pushing the U.S. into a preventable economic recession or even depression while undermining the post-WWII liberal trade order that has benefitted both U.S. prosperity and geopolitical leadership.

V. REMEDIAL ACTIONS REQUESTED

TO THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS:

1. Initiate a bipartisan Select Committee to investigate all executive departments’ use of encrypted communications and loyalty-based hiring.
2. Reinforce legislative checks through War Powers Resolution enforcement and mandatory agency reports.
3. Pass statutes reinforcing whistleblower protections and agency recordkeeping.
4. Demand resignations of noncompliant Secretaries and bar reappointments.

TO THE UNITED STATES SUPREME COURT:

1. Prioritize review of executive actions with constitutional implications, especially those challenged through active litigation.
2. Enforce compliance with precedents through judicial orders and contempt proceedings.
3. Clarify standing rules protecting the institutional independence of military, civil service, and intelligence officials.

TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE:

1. Engage civic watchdog organizations and transparency-focused coalitions.
2. File citizen petitions for FOIA release and legal injunctions against executive abuse.
3. Demand state legislatures uphold voter protections and election security.

 VI. CONCLUSION

The Trump Administration’s approach from January 2025 to the present has proven deeply damaging to the United States’ constitutional integrity, global leadership, economic justice, and national security. Through unchecked executive power, removal of dissenters, and systemic dismantling of federal norms, the Administration has created an unprecedented constitutional crisis.

As Thomas Jefferson once warned, “The time to guard against corruption and tyranny is before they shall have gotten hold of us.” In this spirit, we must recognize that democratic institutions are not self-sustaining; they require vigilant defense by citizens and their representatives alike. The gravity of the current moment demands not silence, but decisive and united action.

We the undersigned call on the United States Congress and Supreme Court to act swiftly and decisively to investigate, censure, and where appropriate, remove officials from office—including the President and Cabinet-level Secretaries—who have failed to uphold their oath to support and defend the Constitution.
