Purpose of This Petition

We, the undersigned residents, voters, and concerned members of the Wayne County community, respectfully petition the appropriate governmental authorities to take all lawful action necessary to establish and implement a policy providing for the removal or relocation of the 336 registered sex offenders from Wayne County, New York, to the fullest extent permitted by New York State and federal law.

Statement of Concern

The safety and well-being of children and other vulnerable members of our community must be a fundamental priority of

government.

Wayne County currently has hundreds of individuals subject to New York's Sex Offender Registration Act. We believe that

the presence of registered sex offenders within our communities presents a serious public-safety concern that deserves

immediate governmental review and action.

We recognize that sex-offender registration, residency, supervision, placement, and removal are governed by state and

federal law. Accordingly, this petition does not request that any individual be deprived of legally protected rights or subjected to unlawful treatment.

Requested Government Action

Instead, we request that the appropriate governmental authorities investigate and pursue every lawful mechanism available to accomplish the following:

1. Establish a policy for the removal or relocation of registered sex offenders from Wayne County, where legally permissible.

2. Seek any necessary changes to New York State law to authorize such removal or relocation if existing county authority is insufficient.

3. Request that New York State officials review current residency, placement, and supervision laws applicable to registered sex offenders residing in Wayne County.

4. Develop legally enforceable restrictions and placement requirements designed to protect children, schools, parks, playgrounds, childcare facilities, and other locations serving vulnerable populations.

5. Require appropriate governmental agencies to report publicly on available legal mechanisms for removing or relocating registered sex offenders from Wayne County.

6. Pursue legislative, administrative, or other lawful remedies necessary to accomplish the objectives expressed in this petition.

No Doxxing or Publication of Personal Information

This petition intentionally does not request, collect, publish, or distribute the names, home addresses, telephone numbers,

photographs, places of employment, or other identifying information of individual registered sex offenders. The purpose of

this petition is to advocate for a governmental policy, not to identify or publicly target individual persons.

Petition

We, the undersigned, respectfully request that the appropriate authorities recognize the concerns expressed herein and take immediate steps to determine what legal authority exists to remove or relocate registered sex offenders from Wayne County and, where existing authority is insufficient, pursue the necessary legislative changes to make such a policy possible. We further request that our elected representatives formally consider this petition and provide the residents of Wayne County with a response regarding what actions can lawfully be taken. We ask our elected officials to put the safety of children and vulnerable residents first and to pursue every lawful avenue available to achieve the objectives of this petition.
