The Issue

In the current digital era, esports have emerged as a rapidly expanding extracurricular activity that fosters teamwork, strategic thinking, and the advancement of gaming abilities to a competitive level. As interest in esports continues to grow among Anthony Wayne High School students, adding Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege to the esports lineup would provide additional opportunities for student participation in organized competition, benefiting both the esports program and the broader school community.

Rainbow Six Siege is already popular among students, with substantial engagement on online platforms. However, opportunities for students to represent Anthony Wayne High School in an official capacity remain limited, particularly regarding team-oriented competition. By formally incorporating Rainbow Six Siege and participating in competitions through eSports Ohio, the school could transform existing interest into structured opportunities for skill development, school representation, and peer engagement within a competitive environment.

Given Rainbow Six Siege’s ESRB rating of Mature 17+, participation would be limited to students who meet the age and eligibility requirements established by the school and competition organizers. Students who are 16 but not yet 17 would require parental or guardian consent. This policy would enable the program to include eligible students while maintaining appropriate oversight and adherence to the game’s content rating.

Expanding the esports team to include Rainbow Six Siege would broaden the range of extracurricular activities available at Anthony Wayne High School and demonstrate a commitment to supporting contemporary student interests. Although esports sometimes face negative perceptions, participation fosters community, leadership, and collaboration skills comparable to those developed through traditional athletics such as football, soccer, and lacrosse. Providing students with access to competitive esports would offer a structured environment for skill development, peer connection, and school representation through organized competition.

Supporting the inclusion of Rainbow Six Siege in the school's esports program would create a more diverse and engaging extracurricular landscape. This addition could enhance students’ educational experiences and offer new opportunities for skill development and school involvement.

Collegiate and Competitive Opportunities

Rainbow Six Siege has an established presence in collegiate esports, offering students opportunities to continue competing after high school. CollegiateR6 reports participation from over 280 universities and 2,000 students, with more than $40,000 in scholastic prizes awarded. Ubisoft, the developer of R6S, runs an official Rainbow Six collegiate program with organized competition and prizes.

Several Ohio colleges participate in competitive Rainbow Six Siege, including the University of Akron, Ohio State University, University of Cincinnati, and Marietta College. The University of Akron has been particularly successful, winning the 2026 Collegiate Rainbow Six Championship. Ohio State and Cincinnati have competed in national collegiate events. Marietta College maintains a Rainbow Six Siege team in its esports program.

Beyond Ohio, many colleges across the country offer Rainbow Six Siege through their esports programs, creating a pathway to collegiate competition and scholarships. Marietta College notes that over 500 colleges in North America offer esports scholarships, showing the growing recognition of competitive gaming in higher education.

Rainbow Six Siege is established at the high school level. Christian Brothers College High School, for example, has competed in Rainbow Six Siege through eSports Ohio and other scholastic esports leagues, including championship events. The program has highlighted alumni who have gone on to compete at the collegiate level and pursue esports opportunities beyond high school. This shows that Rainbow Six Siege can be integrated into a structured high school esports program while providing students with opportunities beyond graduation.

These programs show that Rainbow Six Siege is not just an informal game but an established competitive discipline with opportunities from high school to higher education. Adding the game to Anthony Wayne’s esports program would let students join this competitive ecosystem and provide the school with another avenue for student involvement, achievement, and representation.
