Petition for the Impeachment of President Donald Trump

Petition for the Impeachment of President Donald Trump
The Issue
To the Honorable Members of the United States Congress,
We, the undersigned citizens of the United States, call upon Congress to initiate impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump for actions that violate the Constitution and undermine the principles of democracy. The following points outline the basis for this petition:
1. Unconstitutional Executive Orders on Elections: President Trump issued an executive order imposing new voting restrictions, including proof-of-citizenship requirements and changes to ballot deadlines. These measures have been widely criticized as unconstitutional, as they infringe upon states' rights to administer elections and conflict with federal law. [i] [ii]
2. Abuse of Emergency Powers for Tariffs: The administration's imposition of tariffs on Chinese imports under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act has been challenged as an unconstitutional overreach of executive authority. Legal experts argue that this action usurps Congress's exclusive power to regulate commerce. [iii] [iv]
3. Retaliatory Actions Against Legal Opposition: President Trump has targeted law firms representing his political opponents by revoking security clearances and limiting their access to federal facilities. These actions raise significant First and Fifth Amendment concerns. [v] [vi]
4. Mass Pardons for January 6 Defendants: The issuance of sweeping pardons for individuals involved in the January 6 Capitol riot undermines the justice system and represents a perilous abuse of presidential power. [vii] [viii]
5. Impoundment of Funds Appropriated by Congress: President Trump has engaged in unlawful impoundment of funds, including withholding congressionally approved aid to Ukraine and halting funding for the World Health Organization. These actions violate the Impoundment Control Act of 1974, which limits the president's ability to delay or cancel appropriations enacted into law. [ix] [x]
6. Dismantling of Agencies Created by Congress: Through executive orders, President Trump has dismantled or significantly reduced the capacity of several federal agencies, including the U.S. Agency for Global Media, the Institute of Museum and Library Services, and the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness. These actions undermine the statutory functions of these agencies and disregard Congress's authority to establish and fund them. [xi] [xii]
7. Illegal Deportation of Legal Residents Without Due Process: President Trump has overseen policies that have led to the deportation of legal residents without due process. Reports indicate that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have issued defective notices to appear (NTAs) that lack critical information, such as hearing dates and locations, effectively denying individuals their constitutional right to a fair hearing. [xiii] [xiv]
8. Mass Firing of Government Employees: President Trump has orchestrated the mass firing of government employees, undermining the stability and functionality of federal agencies. This includes late-night terminations at the U.S. Institute of Peace and other agencies, raising concerns about due process and the politicization of federal employment.[xv] [xvi]
These actions collectively demonstrate a pattern of behavior that disregards constitutional limits and the rule of law. We urge Congress to fulfill its constitutional duty to hold the President accountable and protect the integrity of our democratic institutions.
Sincerely,
