We, the undersigned, are writing to demand the immediate release of Ms. Quiarra Short, a woman who has been wrongfully charged with murder after defending herself in a life-threatening situation. Ms. Short acted in self-defense against an aggressor, and yet, instead of receiving the protection and support she deserves, she now faces serious criminal charges for doing what any individual would do to protect their own life.

 

Case Background:

On September 28, 2024, Ms. Quiarra Short found herself in a dangerous and violent situation where she was forced to protect herself from an imminent threat. What was suppose to be a routine pickup of her second grandchild and their sister, turns into a premeditated fight caused by the aggressor. Ms. Short was attacked by a woman twice her size and a male, the size of her own son. Despite clear evidence that her actions were in response to this aggression, authorities have charged her with murder.

 

It is essential to recognize that self-defense is a fundamental right protected under law. 

Ms. Quiarra Short did not initiate the conflict, nor did she act with malice or intent to harm anyone. She was simply trying to survive.

 

Why This Petition Matters

1. Self-Defense is a Right: Every individual has the right to protect themselves when faced with imminent danger. Ms. Quiarra Short’s actions were a direct response to a violent attack, not premeditated murder.

2. Injustice: Charging an innocent woman who acted in self-defense with murder is not only an injustice but sets a dangerous precedent, making victims of violence fear punishment rather than protection.
