Petition for the Enactment of Comprehensive Tourism Legislation In India

The Issue

Dear Mr. G. Kishan Reddy

Why?

The absence of a comprehensive tourism law in India profoundly impacts a diverse range of individuals and communities. Residents in popular tourist destinations endure the consequences of unchecked tourism, facing challenges such as cultural erosion, environmental degradation, and strained resources. Small-scale businesses, including local entrepreneurs and vendors, bear the brunt of unfair competition and unsustainable practices. Tourists themselves encounter issues ranging from inadequate safety measures to unreliable services, hindering their overall experience. Furthermore, the absence of clear regulations affects the reputation of India as a tourist destination, potentially deterring future visitors.

The current absence of a comprehensive tourism law places at risk the very essence of sustainable and responsible tourism in India. If the status quo persists, the environmental integrity of key tourist destinations will continue to deteriorate, jeopardizing unique ecosystems and natural beauty. Cultural richness within local communities faces erosion, impacting the authenticity of the tourist experience. Small businesses confront economic instability, and tourists remain vulnerable to subpar services and facilities. In essence, without proper regulation, India's long-term standing as an attractive and responsible tourist destination is at stake.

The urgency to enact a comprehensive tourism law in India cannot be overstated. Immediate action is imperative to mitigate the ongoing negative impacts on local communities, ecosystems, businesses, and India's overall reputation. By implementing robust regulations now, we can ensure the preservation of cultural heritage, protect the environment, and foster sustainable tourism practices. Delaying action only deepens the harm already inflicted. A comprehensive tourism law not only safeguards the interests of various stakeholders but also contributes to the long-term prosperity and attractiveness of India as a responsible and sustainable tourist destination. Act now to secure a vibrant future for Indian tourism. Sign this petition and call for the immediate enactment of a comprehensive tourism law in India!

Petition:

We, the undersigned, concerned citizens, tourists, and stakeholders in the tourism industry, respectfully present this petition urging the Minister- of Tourism, Government of India.  to enact comprehensive tourism legislation for our country. This legislation is essential to bolster the integrity of the tourism sector, protect the interests of tourists, and promote responsible and sustainable tourism practices.

The proposed tourism law must address critical aspects, including:

1. Registration and Qualification of Tourism Operators:

Establish a robust registration process for travel agents, tour operators, adventure tour operators, and related entities.
Set clear qualifications and standards to ensure professionalism and competence in the tourism trade.

2. Licensing and Compulsory Training:

Implement a mandatory licensing system for all individuals and entities involved in the tourism industry.
Enforce compulsory training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of tourism operators, ensuring a higher standard of service.
Punishment for Cheaters and Fraudsters:

3. Define and impose strict penalties for individuals and entities engaged in fraudulent activities in the tourism sector.
Establish a system for reporting and addressing instances of cheating to protect both tourists and legitimate businesses.
Safety of Tourists:

4. Implement measures to ensure the safety and security of tourists, including the maintenance of infrastructure, emergency response plans, and collaboration with law enforcement agencies.

5. Rights of Tourists:

Clearly define the rights and protections afforded to tourists, including information transparency, fair treatment, and access to grievance redressal mechanisms.

6. Rights of Tourism Service Providers:

Safeguard the rights of legitimate tourism service providers, promoting fair competition and protecting them from unfair practices.

7. Removal of TCS (Tax Collected at Source):

Replace the TCS system with a registration process for services provided to tourists, streamlining taxation procedures without imposing an additional burden on service providers.

8. Strict Punishment for Offences:

Enforce stringent penalties for offences related to cheating, harassment, and any actions that tarnish the country's image.

9.  Establish a legal framework for swift and efficient prosecution of offenders.

By enacting this comprehensive tourism law, our country can ensure a thriving and responsible tourism industry that benefits both tourists and the local community. We believe that these measures will contribute to the sustainable growth of tourism while maintaining the country's reputation as a safe and welcoming destination.

We, the undersigned, earnestly request your consideration of this petition and look forward to a positive response in support of the proposed legislation.
