Petition for Stronger Action on Repeat Offenders and Car Theft in Ballarat.

Petition for Stronger Action on Repeat Offenders and Car Theft in Ballarat.
The issue
Enough Is Enough. Ballarat Deserves Better.
We, the residents of Ballarat and surrounding areas, are calling for immediate action regarding the ongoing rise in car thefts, repeat offending, and weak bail outcomes affecting our community.
Every single day in Ballarat, cars are being stolen, often multiple times a day. Residents are waking up to smashed windows, broken locks, missing vehicles, damaged homes, and the constant fear that they could be next.
What is making the situation even worse is that the community continues hearing about the same offenders being involved repeatedly. Many are believed to be minors, yet being underage should not mean receiving endless chances while innocent people continue suffering the consequences.
Being a minor should not be a free pass to repeatedly offend, terrorise communities, steal property, and then simply be released on bail to do it all again.
Hardworking families are being left devastated after having their vehicles stolen, homes targeted, and property damaged, while repeat offenders continue to be released back into the community only to commit further crimes again and again.
To make matters worse, victims are then forced to watch their stolen property being flaunted across social media like it is entertainment. Cars, belongings, and hard-earned possessions are being posted online with smiles on offenders’ faces, boasting and laughing about crimes that have completely turned other people’s lives upside down.
How is the community supposed to feel safe when criminal behaviour is not only repeated, but openly celebrated?
Residents no longer feel safe in their own homes or secure with their own property. People are living with fear, frustration, anger, and a growing belief that law-abiding citizens are no longer being protected.
We are demanding:
Stronger bail laws for repeat offenders
Real consequences for repeat criminal behaviour
Greater protection for victims and the wider community
Increased police and judicial action targeting ongoing car theft crimes
A review of current bail practices for serious and repeat offending
Greater accountability from the courts and government regarding community safety
This is not about politics. This is about safety.
Ballarat residents are tired of seeing the same offenders repeatedly released while ordinary people are left to deal with the financial and emotional damage caused by crime.
We believe adult crime should receive adult consequences.
We are calling on the Victorian Government, courts, and justice system to take community concerns seriously and act before the situation worsens further.
Our community deserves to feel safe again.
