Petition for Special Immigration Measures in Response to the Iran-Israel Conflict

Petition for Special Immigration Measures in Response to the Iran-Israel Conflict
The Issue
To: The Honourable Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)
We, the undersigned, respectfully call upon the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship to implement immediate special measures to assist those impacted by the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict. These measures should facilitate the issuance of Temporary Resident Visas (TRVs) or travel permits for:
• Temporary residents in Canada whose family members remain in danger due to the conflict;
• Immediate and extended family members of Iranian-Canadian citizens and permanent residents facing insecurity in Iran and surrounding regions.
• Allow Temporary Resident to extend their stay in Canada.
Recognizing the immense psychological and emotional hardship that family separation causes in times of war, we urge the government to establish a streamlined, expedited visa pathway. This should include:
• Relaxed eligibility and documentation requirements;
• Waived biometrics where appropriate;
• A dedicated Humanitarian and Compassionate (H&C) stream for those impacted, whether inside or outside of Canada;
• Emergency travel permits issued through the Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) system for immediate family members.
These steps would ensure rapid, safe, and humane family reunification and uphold Canada’s long-standing commitment to human rights, compassion, and international leadership in times of crisis.
