Petition updatePetition for Smart Growth on the Oakton AT&T SiteOakton Civic Groups unite with a Letter to our Government Leaders
Patty MontaninoVienna, VA, United States
14 Feb 2025

Thank you for your continued interest and support of this redevelopment issue. Here is the latest development of our several civic groups' efforts:

The heart of the problem is the County decides the land density and the State is responsible for the major roads. Unfortunately, our state road infrastructure cannot catch up with the increased density as evidenced by traffic gridlock at the Chain Bridge road intersections of Oakton and Vienna. It boils down to this: Fairfax County cannot continue to make decisions on increasing land density without consideration of its impact on our surrounding roads. This is particularly true for the Oakton Chain Bridge Corridor.

Our civic groups continue to advocate for our community on this issue - a letter has been sent to the Planning Commission requesting a postponement of the final review of the AT&T site scheduled February 26th until a comprehensive transportation study of Oakton’s Chain Bridge corridor is completed and a plan of action with estimated costs is approved by Fairfax County and VDOT. This letter was authored by:

·         Greater Oakton Community Association,

·         Smart Growth for Oakton,

·         Options for Oakton,

·         Oakton HOA/Civic Leader Coalition

·         Miller Heights Neighborhood Association

Please go to the O4O/ Smart Growth Facebook page to see the actual letter.

At this time we are asking you to send an email to government leaders to reinforce our proposal to postpone the Planning Commissioners’ vote to increase the density. – Please send an email to the Planning Commissioners, Chairman of BOS, Providence Supv, VA State Senator and Va Delegate.

RE:        Postpone Comprehensive Plan review and vote of AT&T Site

The proposal of 1.0 FAR for the AT&T site will greatly impact our community’s already overburdened infrastructure and create even more traffic gridlock and danger to our pedestrians.

I endorse Oakton’s Civic Associations’ proposal to postpone the final review of the AT&T site (Plan Amendment 2023-II-F1) and its vote until a COMPREHENSIVE TRANSPORTATION Study of OAKTON’s Chain Bridge Corridor is completed and a plan of action with estimated costs is approved by Fairfax County and VDOT.
