Dear Community,
We are reaching a critical juncture in our quest to be heard by our Government Officials. The plan amendment for the AT&T site will be presented and voted on by the Fairfax County Planning Commissioners on February 26, Wednesday at 7:30 pm at the Government Center,12000 Government Center Parkway.
The Plan Amendment is to increase the density from .40 FAR to mixed use 1.0 FAR, and cap retail from 17,500 square feet to 120,000 square feet (same size as Oakton Shopping Center). Vehicular trips from this proposed density will increase by 7,380 trips on a weekday and 12,877 trips on a Saturday.
We need your support! Please wear your red shirt and come to the Planning Commission meeting! We need to show the Planning Commission that the community is not in support of a 250% increase in density. We plan to gather and stand in solidarity with our speakers to show our support! Let us know you are coming by clicking here.
We also need speakers! The developer, EYA has assembled a large group of speakers with the YIMBY, Sierra Club, and other groups to endorse their project. We need for our citizens to speak about their traffic concerns with this high density! Speakers are allotted a time allotment of 4 minutes unless you are a Civic/HOA leader; then you have 7 minutes. Speakers can sign up online at the Planning Commision at https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/planningcommission/speaker. The application number is Plan Amendment 2023-II-1F.
Our speakers will cover many different concerns; however, our united message is that we are requesting the Planning Commission postpone its final review and vote of Plan Amendment 2023-II-F1 until a comprehensive transportation study of Oakton’s Chain Bridge Corridor is completed and a plan of Action with estimated costs is approved by Fairfax County and VDOT.
You can also mail in your testimony! written testimony and other submissions can be received at Plancom@fairfaxcounty.gov. Please be sure to include the application number 2023-II-1F and copy Options for Oakton for recordkeeping purposes.
As one of our community members wrote so eloquently:
“The land will be developed, and we have only one chance to get it right. The developer will make its money and move on, but the Oakton community will be left to live with the results. The community's wishes should be given highest priority.”
Looking forward to seeing you in your RED SHIRT on February 26th !
