It has become apparent that many of us UC employees and students who use the Foothill parking lot regularly experience feelings of unease and insecurity when entering the lot area. 

The lack of proper lighting, the abundant unmaintained vegetation, and the scrim-covered  fences create perpetual blind spots for those who utilize the Foothill parking lot and pathways surrounding it and work to the advantage of perpetrators. The complete absence of security cameras, police presence, and shuttle buses to & from the parking lot all aggravate the situation further.

All the above are causing us stress in our workplace, and we feel that the school needs to address this safety issue efficiently and quickly. The sexual assault incident on 2/24 and the multiple first-degree (sometimes armed) robberies that have taken place in the Foothill area are testaments to the severity of this cause.

We urge local authorities to take immediate action by:

1.    Installing adequate lighting infrastructure in the Foothill parking area. 

2.    Introducing regular police patrols.

3.    Adding this location to the UC bus routes, 24/7. 

4.    Taking down all scrims.

5.    Maintaining vegetation and trimming as necessary.

By doing so, this will promote a safer environment which is an essential right for all on campus.Please sign our petition urging UC officials to implement these necessary improvements at once!
