Petition for Safer Streets on Linda Avenue: A Call to Action for Piedmont Residents

Petition for Safer Streets on Linda Avenue: A Call to Action for Piedmont Residents
The Issue
Update: Voter guide on this issue here
Are you a Piedmont resident concerned about road safety on Linda Avenue between Grand Avenue and Beach Elementary? If so, we need your voice! By signing this petition, you’re demanding that city council candidates commit to making meaningful safety improvements in this critical area—and that they earn your vote in the upcoming city council election.
We will present this petition to each City Council and School Board candidate, gather their positions, and report their responses back to our group.
As a deeply concerned parent, the safety of our children and neighbors along Linda Avenue between Grand Avenue and Beach Playfield is at stake. The very first day of this school year, my worst nightmare became a reality when my 6 year old son was hit by a car on this very street. It is a risky zone that has been consistently ignored by city administrators.
Our ask is for the city to:
- Install speed humps on Linda Ave between Grand and Beach Playfield
- Install traffic speed feedback signs on Linda Ave between Grand and Beach Playfield
- Implement a flashing “15 MPH School Zone” sign
- Create a protected bike lane on the uphill side of Linda Avenue for safer travel to and from school
The urgency for safety provisions along this route is not an overreaction, but a response to very real incidents that have already resulted in personal tragedies. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), speed humps, and other carefully designed speed reduction measures can decrease the occurrence of collisions by approximately 40% (NHTSA, 2017). We cannot wait for more accidents to happen before we act.
If you want to make change you need to be part of this voting block, otherwise we will continue to be ignored by city administrators.
No more tragedies, no more waiting. We demand immediate action towards comprehensive road safety along Linda Avenue. Please, sign this petition and join our cause for safer streets in Piedmont.
