Petition For Safer Streets

The Issue

In June 2021, Ann Arbor adopted Vision Zero, with the goal to eliminate fatalities and serious injuries resulting from traffic crashes by 2025.

Ann Arbor has failed to implement anything substantial to reduce this, and 2025 has been the most [deadly] year for pedestrians and bikers, with 11 people struck by vehicles resulting in 3 deaths, and many more life altering injuries.

People should not have to fear for their lives when crossing the street, and the city should take the lives of it's citizens seriously.

This is not an impossible task!! The City of Hoboken, NJ has gone 7+ years without a single pedestrian fatality.

How?

They took safety seriously and implemented the following measures:

Raised crosswalks: These make it harder for cars to run people over at crosswalks.

Curb extensions: Reduce crossing distances, improve intersection visibility, and slow vehicle turning speeds.

Delineators installed at 31% of intersections to improve intersection visibility.

We understand that making our streets safer means slowing down traffic, but this doesn't mean reducing the quality of Ann Arbor's transportation nor accessibility.

We call on the City of Ann Arbor to make our streets safer by following in the steps of Hoboken, NJ and to provide appropriate investments into bettering it's transportation infrastructure through reliable public transit to offset any transportation concerns.
