Petition for Retraction of Statements by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC)
The Issue
Demand for Immediate Retraction of Defamatory Statements Linking All Moors/Moroccans to "Sovereign Citizens Movement"
The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) has published numerous statements, articles, and internal memorandums that falsely and unfairly categorize the entire ancestral and ethnic group of the Moorish people as part of the "sovereign citizen movement," an extremist anti-government ideology.
This misclassification is harmful, factually incorrect, and discriminatory.
The term "Moor" refers to a legitimate, historical, and protected ethnic and national origin group—descendants of the ancient Moabites, Moroccans, and historical inhabitants of the Iberian Peninsula and North Africa. It is a genuine cultural heritage, not a pseudo-legal or extremist ideology.
By continuing to publish these generalized, defamatory statements, the SPLC is engaging in group libel and contributing to widespread bias and potential civil rights violations against law- abiding people of Moorish descent. These publications have real-world consequences, creating suspicion and discrimination based on an individual's protected ethnic identity.
We need your help
We, the undersigned individuals of Moorish descent, allies, and concerned citizens, demand that the SPLC take immediate corrective action to cease this defamation and respect the genuine identity of the Moorish people.
Action Demanded
We call on the SPLC to immediately:
- Cease and Desist from publishing any content that equates the general term "Moorish" or "Moroccan" identity with the "sovereign citizen movement."
- Issue a Formal Retraction of all existing online and printed materials containing these false and damaging associations.
- Publish a Public Apology to the Moroccan and Moorish people for the harm caused by this widespread misclassification.
- Collaborate with recognized members of the Moorish community to publish accurate information regarding our genuine identity and protected status.
The SPLC claims to fight bigotry and discrimination. It must now demonstrate that commitment by correcting its own discriminatory misclassification of our people.
