More than 900 voters have now signed a petition demanding Logansport Mayor Chris Martin resign.
There are many reasons for this petition that have been articulated on the updates to this petition over the past year. Now, former Indiana University economist Morton Marcus has released personal income data which should be a reality check for many Logansport and Cass County residents. Cass County's personal income of $34,355 now dips the community into the bottom third of Indiana counties. Cass ranks 71st out of 92, and of surrounding counties, only Miami, which is fourth from last, has a lower personal income than Cass. What that means is that smaller rural counties -- Carroll, Pulaski, Fulton and White -- all have higher personal incomes than Cass.
In the past week, there is confirmation that yet another Logansport business -- Carter Fuel Systems -- will be closing its doors next month. That subtracts more higher-paying union jobs from the community that will further lower our average income.
This isn't your father's Logansport. It is your Logansport -- our community. Our mayor doesn't spend a full 40-hour work week in the City Building and has no vocal plan for improving the local economy. Meanwhile, his own legal issues have made for a sideshow that the community is weary of hearing.
For those who love the community and want to live here, raise a family -- even retire here -- this is a call to action.
Please join nearly 1,000 people who are saying "Enough is enough. Logansport deserves better."
