With signatures for a petition demanding Chris Martin's resignation now surpassing 800 and nearing the number of people who voted for him in 2023, the latest word on unemployment in Indiana is out and it's not good for Logansport.

Cass County ended the year tied for the fifth highest unemployment rate in the state. It now trails every county contiguous to it except Howard County at 4 percent. Cass has the fourth worst unemployment rate in northern Indiana with only Howard, Lake and Starke worse than Cass.

Meanwhile, downtown restaurants such as Amelio's and China Lane are closed, there are no new businesses opening in the Cass/Logan Industrial Park and even the Beef-A-Roo opening heralded by Martin has failed to come to fruition in the former Mr. Happy Burger location. The one bright spot has been The Junction, which happened in there previous administration which recruited developer Joe DiCosola in cooperation with the First Bank of Algonquin, Illinois.

Logansport is the prime economic development engine for Cass County, but it has stalled. That's why hundreds of people -- now several daily -- are signing this petition demanding Martin resign and that he be replaced by a professionally trained, non-partisan city manager.
