Judging by the results since the first of the year, more Logansport residents have made a New Year's resolution to sign a petition demanding Mayor Chris Martin resign.
The signature total now is more than 690, averaging more than two a day since January 1.
While there are many anecdotal stories of Martin's lack of commitment to the job and the problems he is having, the latest came last week via the front page of the Logansport Pharos-Tribune. The Logansport Police Department now has a new chief in Shawn Heishman, but he has his work cut out for him. Police report they received 42 percent more calls last year than 2024. As the article points out, LPD is responding to those calls despite being down several men.
The response from the Mayor's Office? It's as quiet as a hospital zone. Meanwhile calls for everything from fights in progress, domestic violence and robberies to criminal mischief, hit-and-run driving and property damage vandalism continue with no plan for community policing, adding officers or paying overtime to those who are doing the job.
This is the latest of several reasons why we're asking you to sign the petition demanding Martin's resignation so the city council can replace him with a trained, certified, independent city manager.
Thank you for caring for our city. Stay, safe and warm.
