Petition updatePetition for ResignationClerk-Treasurer Throws In The Towel; Becomes Latest To Abandon Martin's Sinking Ship

Just nearing the halfway point of his first term, Logansport's clerk-treasurer has officially resigned his post, effective at the end of the month.

So far this year, Mayor Chris Martin has lost his police chief, his fire chief and now the No. 2 official in city government, Tyler Pearson. In a released statement, Pearson said he is resigning "for personal reasons." Meanwhile, former Clerk-Treasurer Duane Ullom, the man Pearson narrowly defeated, remains on the job at the city's behest to ensure the city files all its proper paperwork with Indiana state government. Speculation now begins on who will replace Pearson and if he leaves the city books in order given the tribulations of Martin, who faces potential garnishment of his wages in hearings in the Cass County court system. In addition to that is the overarching issue involving a potential lawsuit against the city for Martin's involvement in the Ironhorsemen lodging at Logansport's Super 8 Motel. The motel's attorney alleged earlier this year that Martin owes the motel more than $40,000.

These distracting -- and disturbing problems -- involving Logansport's Mayor are why nearly 500 Logansport residents have signed this petition demanding his resignation so that the city council can fill his capacity with an independent, trained city manager.

We can't expect better things to happen in Logansport next year unless there is a change other than the one in the office next to Chris Martin.

We invite you to sign and share our petition.
