Actualización sobre la peticiónPetition for ResignationCass County Unemployment Rises To Sixth Place Tie Among 92 Counties

The unemployment numbers are telling.

Cass County had an unemployment rate rising to 4.9 percent in September, the most recent month for which statistics are available from the government. That ties them for the sixth highest unemployment rate in Indiana. Among surrounding counties, only Howard County at 6.9 percent is higher. Miami also has a 4.9 percent rate as does Scott County.

This is a dubious distinction for Cass County which counts Tyson Foods, a Fortune 500 company, in the city as its largest employer.

Yet, Mayor Chris Martin, who is seldom seen in the City Building, has voiced no concern over the ranking, which is a stain on his watch, or voiced any plan to lower the unemployment rate or help the unemployed. Meanwhile, he faces his own challenges this month with scheduled or pending hearings that could garnishee his wages imposed by Henry Kay Jewelers, Target and an auto dealer.

These disturbing facts are why nearly 40 dozen Logansport residents have signed this petition demanding that he resign so that the Logansport City Council can replace him with a non-partisan, professionally trained and certified city manager.
