Legal issues confronting Mayor Chris Martin are mounting up, as signatures calling for his resignation are piling up.
Martin faces two garnishment hearings in Cass County courts, as reported earlier this fall by the Logansport Pharos-Tribune. Meanwhile, still unresolved is the claim from the Manor Motel that Martin owes them more than $40,000 for the Iron Horses minor league basketball team it houses earlier this year. On top of that, it was acknowledged at last Monday's city council meeting that the city will appeal a verdict awarding funds to former firefighter Scott Jones, What's unclear is if Martin intends to employ his own attorney to represent him in court for personal matters, or if he'll pay that out of pocket, since his failure to pay bills is one of the issues with the garnishment. What's also unclear is that if the additional legal work will cost the city more than what City Attorney Kelly Leeman earns via his retainer.
For a Mayor who frequently doesn't show up for work for several days at a time, we've reached a time when he may be making more court appearances for the rest of 2025 than appearances in his office.
These problems and the negative image it projects for our city are why now 36 dozen voters have signed a petition demanding he resign and be replaced with a non-partisan, professionally trained city manager.
Please join us in demanding better management of our city, and share this petition. Thank you for caring for the future of our community our children and grandchildren will inherit.
