Rochester has lost many of its signature round barns over the years, and doesn't have a Round Barn Festival any longer.
But while people have been taking things out of Fulton County, Rochester's first-term mayor has accomplished what Logansport Mayor Chris Martin has not in six years: He has rounded up $26 million in investment for the creation of a new industrial park, infrastructure investment and housing. Last week, city, county and state officials gathered in Rochester for the groundbreaking phase of the project.
Meanwhile in Logansport, 25 miles to the south, Mayor Martin has yet to attract a new business to the Cass/Logan Industrial Park. Restaurants downtown have closed. The only industrial development happening is through Cass County Agri-Business Park on Ind. 25 south of the city. But the city, which largely drives economic development in the region, is not, even as the community is malingering in an unemployment rate that continues to be among the state's top 20 worst.
For these and other reasons, we don't just ask you to sign this petition demanding that Chris Martin resign -- we implore you. Logansport is adrift and its CEO is often not at work and goes for days at a time without being seen in public. This isn't leadership. It's the definition of a city that -- if it were a business -- would be a candidate for receivership.
For those who truly care about the future of Logansport and what it will be in 10 years, please sign and share.
Thank you for caring for our community, and here's to better days ahead.
