Petition updatePetition for ResignationMartin's Truck Stop Decision Backfires On City Corridor Development

One of the most controversial decisions of Mayor Chris Martin's administration is still not paying dividends for the city.

When he ignored the recommendation of the past two administrations and the zoning guidelines for the busy intersection of the Hoosier Heartland and 18th Street, he paved the way for a gas station/truck stop to be placed near the Ivy Tech Community College campus. It was a move made to entice more people to go into Logansport from the Heartland and to develop the acres of vacant property between the truck stop and Ivy Tech. But the decision has backfired, and no development is coming to an area that could potentially be home to a shopping center or one or more of several restaurant chains. Clearly put, it wasn't an appropriate use for the land given the "front door" overlay district the community comprehensive plan has had in place for years. Meanwhile, gas sold there continues to be at a premium price for North Central Indiana.

These decisions are among the many reasons more than 32 dozen Logansport residents have signed a petitioning demanding his resignation, and his replacement with a non-partisan, certified city manager.

Please join us in making more positive things happen for Logansport -- and for improving its future for all of us.
