As the number of signatures on the petition demanding Chris Martin's resignation climbs to 32 dozen, the nagging ongoing issue that doesn't go away is the mayor's frequent absences.
In Indiana schools, a student is considered "chronically absent" if he misses 10 percent of classes During his first term, clerk-treasurer's office records indicate Martin missed 31 Logansport Board of Public Works and Safety meetings and cancelled four others. That represents a 30 percent Absenteeism rate -- three times what would be considered "chronic Absenteeism" in schools.
It's not just those meetings, which under Indiana law he chairs, but it's among many responsibilities -- chairing the council meetings, meeting with prospective economic development representatives, fielding calls and concerns from the public and meeting with vendors, consultants and contractors the city hires annually.
But where Martin is when he's not in the City Building remains a mystery. This is among the glaring reasons why Logansport residents have taken the time to sign and share this petition, and we invite you to do the same.
Please have a positive vision for our future.
Thank you for caring for our city.
