While Logansport motorists will be watching out for special weekend traffic patrols this Labor Day holiday weekend, Logansport police are apparently looking the other way when it comes to enforcement -- even in the City Building parking lot.
While some officers will earn holiday pay and special stepped-up enforcement zone pay for work this holiday weekend, Logansport Mayor Chris Martin is driving with an expired license plate. As with all drivers with names starting with "M," his expired in July. Photos of his car parked in the City Building lot clearly show no 2026 sticker on his Mustang's plate with a "Chris Martin for Mayor" sticker in the rear window.
This represents a substantial fine and costs of more than $100, but don't expect him to be ticketed by local police, as was former Mayor Ted Franklin when he received a parking citation during his term -- then painted an entire area behind the City Building yellow for "mayoral parking."
This kind of "look the other way" government is among many reasons why local residents are joining us in signing and sharing our petition demanding he resign, and that the city council replace him with a non-partisan, professionally certified city manager. Mayors, clerk-treasurers and city council members are all sworn to uphold laws on the books, and while Martin himself votes to impose thousands of fines on local residents, he isn't accountable personally for his own conduct.
