Last weekend, many driving through Logansport may have noticed many American flags displayed, some in places where Noon Kiwanis Club members place more than 300 flags throughout the community on special days.
But while Logansport residents were honoring Corporal Sanchez, the last American soldier to give his life in Afghanistan and a Logansport native, Mayor Chris Martin continues to avoid even showing up at Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies where mayors of both parties have represented the city for generations. It's alarming to note that someone who was chosen and paid to represent the city's residents not only doesn't show up for work in his office on a regular basis, but spends those holiday observances on a personal holiday somewhere else. It's insulting to the thousands of men and women from Logansport and Cass County who have served in the military, and it is especially insulting to the soldiers who gave their lives for our country -- and their families. It sends a chilling message to Logansport residents that our mayor just doesn't care enough about our country and the people in our community who serve it to offer words of gratitude and respect for those who have paid the ultimate price for freedom.
There are many reasons why we have been circulating this petition demanding Martin's resignation for months. But this is possibly the most disturbing one.
Please join the 31 dozen Logansport residents who have signed and/or shared this petition demanding his resignation and his replacement with an independent, professionally-certified city manager. We appreciate your concern for veterans and for our community and its future.
