As the number of Logansport residents who have signed the petition nears 300, the Logansport Board of Public Works and Safety chaired by Chris Martin has shown it does not want to be accountable for properties it owns.
At Wednesday's board meeting which Martin attended, Code Enforcement Officer Randy Ulery reported that he sent out 119 violations for tall grass violations on property owners in the city. Ironically, all 119 combined would probably be less than the 10-acre violation owned by the city -- the former Trelleborg site at One General St. on the city's west side.
Althoiugh the previous administration constantly trimmed it, cut grass and removed weeds, the Martin Administration has consistently failed to maintain the property to the city's own standards. Although the city eagerly fines violators and one local business was fined $500 for failing to meet city building codes at the same meeting, Martin fails to be accountable for a property that has been an eyesore for the past five years plus of his administration. The previous administration planned housing and solar panel installation for the property, but the current administration only has a plan for a portion of the property that has emerged. Meanwhile, residents watch as their property values are threatened by Martin's inaction.
On this Independence Day when we celebrate the efforts of our forefathers who demanded democracy, we humbly ask you to join us in signing and sharing this petition demanding the mayor's resignation.
Have a safe holiday weekend and thank you for caring for our community.
