One of the great abiding traditions of Logansport residents is their stadfast support of The Salvation Army Red Kettle Drive. It annuially provides thousands of dollars for the poor and those in the need when disaster strikes or they burned out of their home.
As times have changed, more often than not, a Red Kettle is not manned by a volunteer ringing a bell. That's also the metaphor for our Mayor's Office. As is too often the case, there is no mayor manning the office, and no one taking the responsibility of assuring that those in need are cared for in our community.
As we prepare to open our hearts this Christmas Eve, let's remember those who need help most and remember that it's not just the Red Kettles that aren't manned. Notice the vacant parking space in the City Building parking lot most days.
It's in that spirit that we ask you to share and sign our petition -- now wqith 210 signatures -- demanding the resignation of Mayor Chris Martin and installing a full-time, non-partisan city manager in his place. And to paraphrase Charles Dickens, "God bless us every one."
