Petition updatePetition for ResignationWith NIPSCO Proposing Rate Hikes, Mayor Silent On Rates For Logansport

Logansport residents and customers of the Logansport Utilities, formerly LMU, have enjoyed lower rates thanks to the negotiation of a contract with Next Era one mayoral administration ago. In addition, a solar field was built to reduce energy costs for the utilities and provide more power within the loop of Logansport.

But as NIPSCO, which serves Logansport, is already proposing a 22 percent rate hike for its electric customers, we can expect another increase will be coming for natural gas customers as NIPSCO invests in renewable fuels and its infrastructure system for dispersing electricity. It's no doubt going to hurt Logansport consumers if the state approves it, and it is expected to do that.

Meanwhile, Mayor Chris Martin is mute on issues involving power rates for the city, a huge economic development issue. He has not announced any plans to reduce rates further by expanding the city's solar grid. In the rest of the country, rates are expected to rise.

This is an issue that affects everyone in the city and rural Cass County; locally-owned businesses and senior citizens on a fixed income.

That's among many reasons (including 10 listed) on a petition circulating, demanding the resignation of Martin and the appointment of a non-partisan city manager.

As we look forward with optimism for 2025 and beyond, please join us in signing and sharing this petition so we can all look forward to Logansport's future.
