During the Logansport mayoral campaigns of 2019 and 2023, Pam Leeman, who actively led the efforts to build a monument in tribute to immigrants in downtown Logansport, was a supporter of Chris Martin.
The recent controversy with Martin's claims that Logansport is being overwhelmed with immigrants creates a conundrum for Leeman, a Kokomo resident whose husband is the Logansport city attorney. Gov. Eric Holcomb went on record saying Logansport isn't overwhelmed by immigrants, but clearly legal immigration is a part of our nation's history. Even the Italian immigrants faced prejudice in Logansport and other cities.
Leeman, who can see the statue she supported stand in Heritage Park downtown, and other Martin supporters should be open and honest about their real support for immigrants, but they have not been. You can't have it both ways with immigration that's legal. You either support it or you don't.
Please join us in signing the petition calling -- and demanding -- that he resign, for these and other reasons.
Logansport has been a cultural melting pot that reflects the diversity of America. Let's not let Logansport become a community that is not welcoming, diverse or progressive.
