Petition for Rainbow Babies Benches Across the Sunshine Coast
The issue
Hi there. Early this year my husband, son, and I were excited to find out that we were pregnant. Unfortunately our little girl, Rosie, didn't make it, but she taught us valuable lessons, and if she had made it, would have set the world on fire. If she had survived, she would have been our Rainbow Baby.
To honour her, and all of the Rainbow Babies who don't make it, we decided to work with Sunshine Coast Council to (at our cost) have a single rainbow bench installed at Happy Valley park. So that families, like ours, could go and sit somewhere peaceful and beautiful, to grieve, to heal, and to remember the children we have lost. Because there is currently no where for us to go. However, Council have told us that this issue is not a community issue and therefore a rainbow bench cannot be installed for Rainbow Babies.
Did you know that approximately 10-15% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage, and that this figure is grossly underreported. That every year around 110,000 Australian women experience a miscarriage, and 2,200 more endure the pain of having a stillborn child? A further 600 Australians lose their child in the first 28 days after birth.
Please sign this petition to let Sunshine Coast Council that this issue is a community issue - that each and every one of us knows someone, or is someone, who has lost a child, that our Rainbow Babies are important, and deserve to be remembered in a place that families can find peace, beauty, and healing.
Thank you for your time and support.
