Petition for positive Policy Adjustments and Workplace improvements
Petition for positive Policy Adjustments and Workplace improvements
The Issue
As one the leads of the cocktail department at Stadium Swim, I write this today to respectfully submit this petition to advocate for positive and constructive changes regarding current uniform and appearance standards.
As a collective majority, we take pride in representing the venue and understand the importance of maintaining a professional appearance that aligns with the brand. Our intention is not to eliminate standards, but rather to encourage a review of policies that we believe are more fitting to the brand and venue. With the weather extremities we encounter working in Las Vegas and woking at a venue that has little to no shade, we believe reasonable adjustments can be made while continuing to uphold positive and professional guest experience and company expectations.
Specifically, we are requesting the consideration of,
- Flexibility regarding approved footwear, including white athletic shoes or running shoes that provide additional comfort and support particularly during the weekdays (Monday-Thursday) when the venue functions more as a resort style pool. Team members currently are expected to wear 3-4 inches heels for the entirety of their 8 hour shift Monday-Sunday, while managing demanding service volumes that can exceed 12-20 tables per shift. Combined with staffing shortages, scheduling challenges and employee burnout. These considerations we are asking, do not negatively impact guest experience, brand standards, service quality, or revenue.
- A review of current hair and appearance policies to allow for more practical styling options while still maintaining a polished and professional image.
- A review of current “all-in package” expectations, including consideration of implementing a reasonable “cap" on the number of tables eligible to be booked per day. Many team members feel that the current workload is overwhelming and has negatively impacted team morale, employee well-being, and the ability to consistently and efficiently provide exceptional guest service.
- Lastly, a growing concern regarding staffing and scheduling practices that have been affecting the cocktail department. Many employees during this “all-in package promotion” are being scheduled outside of their availability they submitted, while others are being scheduled up to 6 days despite being classified as part-time employee. This imbalance has created a huge frustration among the team, working longer hours to compensate for the amount of reservations and employee call outs while making less money. Employees are feeling overextended and burnt out. With the understanding that staffing is and can be challenging based on business levels, girls are having to and expected to adhere to these changes on a rather short timeline. Again adhering to my concerns of workload, expectations, and attitudes. The common feeling shared amongst the team is unnecessary stress and the difficulty in maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
We as a team feel these concerns have been long over due, and or not listened to or considered. This would improve employee comfort, morale, without again effecting guest experience, service standards, business levels, and revenue.
My intention in bringing these concerns forward is not to complain, but to advocate and be the voice for the team and encourage proactive solutions before these concerns become larger issues. I believe there is an opportunity to improve both employees satisfaction and operational efficiency by creating a more balanced work environment.
Additionally, we would like to express concerns regarding the current workplace culture. Many employees feel there is an opportunity to improve communication, professionalism, consistency, accountability, staffing/scheduling and mutual respect throughout the venue. We believe fostering a more positive and supportive environment will strengthen teamwork, improve morale, and ultimately enhance guest experience.
This petition is submitted in good faith and with the shared goal of helping both employees and the business succeed. We would appreciate the willingness from all parties involved to truly listen to the employees needs and concerns to consider the feedback from members of the team who contribute every single day to this venue's success.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Respectfully,
The Stadium Swim Cocktail Department
