This week Winona Chief of Police ordered that the dogs at the Winona City Pound be "euthanized" by gunshot. While this is legal according to Mississippi's legislation, it is cruel and unethical. I start this petition for Chief RoShaun Daniels to resign from his position. 

Also, if you want your voice to be heard on the "euthanasia" and Winona City Pound issue, attend the upcoming board meeting and go to City Hall to fill out a complaint form.

The House Bill linked above defines what qualifies as humane euthanasia. It amended an early Section which Mayor Aaron Dees has cited in his Facebook post. 

Not only did they not use the chemicals listed in the bill or have certification, but if they acted in "good faith" is not a clear cut issue.

*Correction- It appears the House Bill I linked to did not pass. They have been trying to change euthanasia laws since around 2004 with no avail. The most recent attempt to define humane euthanasia was in 2023 which also did not pass.
