Petition for Installation of Speed Humps on Cloyne Main Road

Petition for Installation of Speed Humps on Cloyne Main Road
The Issue
We, the undersigned residents, parents, and road users of Cloyne and the surrounding areas, are requesting the installation of speed humps on Spital Road (R631), from the top of Castlemary up to the centre Cross, with particular urgency near the school zone.
Reason for This Petition:
Excessive speeding along this stretch of road has become a persistent and dangerous issue.
The area near the school is especially high‑risk, with children, parents, and staff crossing the road daily. The area leading up to and including the Two estates Lus An Ime and Traonach are extreamly dangerous as children cross here to go home from school.
Increased traffic volume has made the road more hazardous for pedestrians, cyclists, and local residents.
Current signage and road markings are not sufficient to slow vehicles to safe speeds.
What We Are Requesting:
We respectfully ask the council to install speed humps or other effective traffic‑calming measures along this section of the R631, prioritising the area by the school and the top of Castlemary Road.
These measures would:
Reduce vehicle speeds
Improve safety for children and families
Protect pedestrians and cyclists
Prevent potential accidents before they occur
Community Support:
The safety of our community — especially our children — must be a priority. We believe that implementing speed humps is a simple, effective, and necessary step to ensure safer travel for everyone using this road.
We urge the council to take action as soon as possible.
