We, the undersigned residents of South Elmwood Avenue and surrounding neighborhoods in the community, formally support and endorse the following request for urgent action regarding dangerous traffic conditions on our street.

Statement of the Problem:

For years, South Elmwood Avenue between Washington Street and Belvidere Road has been used as a high-speed bypass route by cars and commercial trucks seeking to avoid congestion or detection on Lewis Avenue. What began as an occasional nuisance has become a serious and ongoing public safety crisis.

Vehicles routinely travel well in excess of the posted speed limit.
There have been multiple accidents and numerous near-misses involving pedestrians, children playing, and families.
Traffic enforcement on this stretch is virtually non-existent, allowing drivers to treat our residential street like a thoroughfare with complete impunity.
The safety of our families, children, and neighbors is compromised every day.
This situation is untenable and risks a preventable tragedy if no action is taken.

Our Request:

We respectfully but firmly demand the immediate installation of permanent speed deterrents (speed bumps or speed humps) along South Elmwood Avenue between Washington Street and Belvidere Road. Physical infrastructure changes are the only reliable way to slow traffic, enforce compliance, and protect our community.

We urge the City to:

Approve and schedule the installation of speed bumps/humps as quickly as possible.
Conduct any necessary traffic studies or reviews on an expedited basis.
Provide the community with a clear timeline for implementation and keep residents informed of progress.

Call to Action:

The residents of South Elmwood Avenue have waited long enough. We call on city leadership to act now to make our neighborhood safe again. Inaction is no longer acceptable.
