The Issue

Indian Summer was a short-lived but influential American emo band from Oakland, California, active between 1993 and 1994. Their music was characterized by dynamic shifts between quiet, spoken-word passages and intense, cathartic outbursts, which contributed to the birth of the “screamo” genre.

During their brief existence, Indian Summer released a self-titled EP and several split records with bands like Current, Embassy, and Ordination of Aaron. They also appeared on compilations such as Ghost Dance and A Food Not Bombs Benefit. The band was known for their minimalist aesthetic, often omitting track titles and using symbols in place of song names.

Indian Summer’s influence on underground music has been profound and can be heard in virtually every screamo band to follow them, and far beyond. Few bands in history are capable of impacting generation after generation with such a consistent magnitude. To consummate this prolific legacy and bring together all the generations of evolving music they’ve inspired, back to the mythical source itself; we are petitioning for the members of Indian Summer to reunite for at least one performance for their fans and disciples, young and old, to experience.
