Ethics plays a vital role in shaping responsible professional engineers, yet a staggering 92 percent of respondents acknowledge that ethical issues exist in engineering and need improvement (Harvard Business School, "Why Are Ethics Important in Engineering?").

Integrity, accountability, and moral responsibility are fundamental values of engineering, and students benefit when these ideas are incorporated into courses throughout their undergraduate careers. Enhancing ethics education, especially through real-world examples and relevant applications, can help future engineers better understand the impact of their decisions, supporting safer designs and greater public trust. As engineering challenges grow in complexity, students require the tools necessary to navigate pressing ethical concerns with confidence and clarity.

Students, educators, and campus leaders all play a role in shaping strong ethics education. By signing or sharing your perspective, you help us work towards improvements that benefit the entire engineering community here at CU Boulder.
