Petition for inclusion of Skerries and Balbriggan in Zone 1

Petition for inclusion of Skerries and Balbriggan in Zone 1
The Issue
Transport Minister Darragh O’Brien and the NTA have overseen a recent change in fares on the Irish Rail Commuter Line. In this change, Skerries and Balbriggan train stations, have been designated as Zone 2.
This means commuters from Skerries and Balbriggan pay more for their fares than other Dublin towns to the south.
Zone 1, has a weekly cap of €24,
Zone 2, has a weekly cap of €40.
The Annual Difference here is €440.
Skerries and Balbriggan commuters until this change, have always been in the Short-Hop Area, as major Dublin Commuter Towns.
While the effects of these changes to Skerries and Balbriggan are clear and obvious, they also damage the people of Rush, Lusk, and Donabate, many of whom, have children who attend the Loretto Balbriggan Secondary School, who, over the Easter Break have seen their train fares to the School Triple. The Child Fare for the trip from Rush & Lusk has risen from 65c to €1.95 for two stops at approximately 10 minutes.
Robert O’Donoghue TD and the Dublin Fingal West Labour Party have created a petition seeking to include Skerries and Balbriggan in Zone 1.
