Petition for Imelda Marcos to be buried at the Manila Film Center

The Issue

The Manila Film Center is an edifice of Imelda Marcos' unwavering commitment to uphold the "true, good and beautiful"

Completed on January 18, 1982 just in time for the 1st Manila International Film Festival (which is the brainchild of the former First Lady herself), this Parthenon-like establishment was built to serve as the main theater for the glamorous event they touted as the "Cannes Film Festival of Asia". In attendance were A-list celebrities like Robert Duvall, Ben Kingsley and George Hamilton, who were all in awe at the grandiose architecture and the sturdiness of the structure.

A genuine patroness of the arts, the ever-humble Imelda always made sure that the labourers came first. This account is even immortalized in the 2015 movie, Tragic Theater.

It is only fitting that a regal lady like Mrs. Marcos be buried alongside 169 unsung heroes who have sacrificed their lives for the completion of a world-class monument, now home to random hobo hookups and regular pot sessions -- which up to this day, serves as an enduring legacy of the dictatorship's glory days.
