

Petition: For Fairness, Transparency, Student Safety & Representation at LPU
The Issue
TO: The Management and Administration of Lovely Professional University (LPU)
We, the students of Lovely Professional University, respectfully call upon the university administration to address the following concerns and demands through transparent, fair and appropriate procedures.
This petition is intended to provide students with a collective platform to raise concerns and request constructive action while maintaining peace, academic discipline and respect for the university community.
OUR DEMANDS
1. IMMEDIATE AND IMPARTIAL INVESTIGATION
All serious incidents should be investigated thoroughly, promptly and impartially by the appropriate authorities.
2. SAC INVOLVEMENT IN INVESTIGATIONS
The Student Action Committee (SAC) should be given appropriate representation in student-related investigations, alongside the relevant university or legal authorities where applicable.
3. ACTION AGAINST THOSE FOUND RESPONSIBLE
Anyone found responsible after a proper investigation should face appropriate action under applicable university rules and law.
4. APOLOGY AND COMPENSATION WHERE APPLICABLE
Where responsibility is established, affected individuals or families should receive appropriate apology and compensation in accordance with applicable rules and law.
5. STUDENT SAFETY IN GIRLS' HOSTELS
Appropriate restrictions and authorization procedures should be maintained regarding the presence of male workers or unauthorized personnel inside girls' hostels, with necessary exceptions subject to proper authorization.
6. VERIFICATION OF WORKERS ENTERING GIRLS' HOSTELS
Workers required to enter girls' hostels should undergo proper verification and security screening.
7. ENHANCED SECURITY AT THE AGRICULTURE BLOCK
Security arrangements should be strengthened, including adequate surveillance, monitoring, lighting and other necessary safety measures.
8. NO ARBITRARY RULES AGAINST STUDENTS
University rules should be implemented fairly and consistently. New restrictions should not be introduced without proper justification and communication.
9. ACTION AGAINST INVOLVED STAFF WHERE RESPONSIBILITY IS ESTABLISHED
If a staff member is found responsible for misconduct or wrongdoing following a proper investigation, appropriate action should be taken according to applicable rules and law.
10. PROTECTION FROM ARBITRARY FIRs OR UMC PROCEEDINGS
Students should not be subjected to FIRs or Unfair Means Cases (UMC) without proper evidence, due process and a fair investigation.
11. SAC REPRESENTATION DURING UMC PROCEEDINGS
Where a student is subject to a UMC investigation, at least one SAC representative should be permitted to be present throughout the proceedings, with appropriate oversight subject to university procedures.
12. RECOGNITION OF GOVERNMENT HOLIDAYS
Government-declared public holidays should be observed by the university where applicable, subject to academic and regulatory requirements.
13. NO MANDATORY MAKEUP CLASSES SOLELY BECAUSE OF TEACHER LEAVE
Students should not ordinarily be required to attend makeup classes solely because a teacher was on approved leave, except where genuinely necessary and with reasonable prior notice.
14. REVIEW OF ATTENDANCE RULES
The attendance policy should be reviewed to make it more reasonable and flexible while maintaining necessary academic standards.
15. REDUCTION AND WAIVER OF DETENTION FEES
Students facing genuine medical conditions or serious circumstances should be given a fair opportunity to appear for examinations, subject to appropriate documentation and university regulations.
16. REDUCTION OF REAPPEAR AND BACKLOG EXAMINATION FEES
Fees for reappear and backlog examinations should be reviewed with the objective of making them more affordable for students.
17. CONSIDERATION OF GENUINE ATTENDANCE-SHORTAGE CASES
Genuine medical and exceptional circumstances should be considered through a transparent mechanism when students face attendance shortages.
18. OFFICIAL RECOGNITION OF SAC
The Student Action Committee should receive formal recognition from the university, with clearly defined rights, responsibilities and mechanisms for student representation.
19. LIMIT ON FEE INCREASES
University fees should not be increased by more than 5% in a given period without proper justification, consultation with student representatives and approval through the appropriate authorities.
WHAT WE ARE ASKING FOR
We are NOT asking for disorder, violence or damage to university property.
We are asking for:
• Transparency
• Fair investigation
• Student representation
• Due process
• Reasonable policies
• Safety
• Accountability
• Constructive dialogue between students and the university administration
We believe student concerns can be addressed through peaceful, lawful and institutional mechanisms.
OUR APPEAL
We respectfully request the LPU administration to acknowledge these concerns, engage with elected/recognized student representatives and establish a transparent mechanism through which students can raise grievances and receive documented responses.
