Petition for Fair Water Rates in Williamsburg, OH

The Issue

We, the undersigned residents of Williamsburg, urge our local officials to review and adjust our water rates, which are significantly higher than those of neighboring communities.

Comparing Williamsburg’s Rates to Nearby Towns
Williamsburg:

Base fee: $28.54 for 3,000 gallons
Usage rate: $11.94 per additional 1,000 gallons (inside village)
Outside village rate: $16.27 per additional 1,000 gallons
Batavia:

Base fee: $10.00 for first 100 cubic feet (~748 gallons)
Usage rate: $4.50 per additional 100 cubic feet (~748 gallons)
Bulk water rate: $8.00 per 1,000 gallons
Milford:

Base fee: $25 for a standard 5/8-inch meter
Usage rate: $4.97 per 1,000 gallons (inside city limits)
Outside city rate: $7.43 per 1,000 gallons
Williamsburg residents are paying more than double the rates of neighboring towns like Milford and Batavia. This unjustified price gap places an unnecessary financial burden on our community.

Our Requests for Fairness & Transparency
Rate Assessment & Adjustment:

Conduct a comparative analysis of Williamsburg’s water rates against neighboring towns.
Adjust pricing to reflect fair market rates in Clermont County.
Transparency in Revenue Use:

Provide public breakdowns of how additional tax revenue from developments like the Purina pet food plant is being allocated.
Clarify if existing funds can be used to offset water costs.
Infrastructure Audit & Efficiency Study:

Conduct an independent audit to identify areas for cost reduction.
Explore bulk water purchase renegotiation to lower rates for Williamsburg residents.
Public Engagement & Policy Reform:

Schedule a town hall meeting where residents can voice concerns directly.
Implement regular public updates before any future rate increases.
Water is a basic necessity, and our community deserves fair and transparent pricing. We urge Williamsburg officials to take immediate action in reviewing these concerns.

Sincerely
