Petition for Equal Access to Clubs and Organizations During Eagle Time

Petition for Equal Access to Clubs and Organizations During Eagle Time
The Issue
Akins Early College High School, Austin, Texas
We, the undersigned students of Akins Early College High School, are writing to express our collective concern regarding the ongoing issue of selective access to clubs and organizations during Eagle Time (10:35 AM–11:10 AM). Eagle Time is designed to provide all students with equal opportunities to participate in clubs, organizations, tutorials, and makeup assignments. However, recent actions by some faculty members have resulted in certain students being allowed to attend specific clubs while others are unfairly denied the same access.
This practice is not only unfair, but it also violates the principles of the Equal Access Act (EAA) and the Equal Educational Opportunities Act (EEOA), both of which guarantee that no student should face discrimination in accessing educational or extracurricular programs based on personal preferences or arbitrary decisions. All students deserve an equal chance to participate in the clubs and organizations of their choice without interference or favoritism.
We, as students, stand united in the belief that:
Equal access to clubs and organizations should be granted to every student, without discrimination.
Eagle Time should remain an inclusive period where all students have the opportunity to explore their interests, attend tutorials, and engage in activities that enhance their educational experience.
Faculty members should not selectively issue passes or prevent students from joining the clubs they are genuinely interested in.
By signing this petition, we call on the Akins High School administration to investigate and address this issue immediately and ensure that all students are treated fairly during Eagle Time. We request clear guidelines to be put in place so that no student is denied access to any club or organization based on arbitrary decisions.
We believe that fostering a school environment of equality, inclusion, and respect benefits the entire student body. Please join us in supporting this important cause.
