eBay used to be the absolute best place for collectors to track down rare stuff. For a lot of us, it wasn’t just a regular marketplace—it was a community. I’ve relied on eBay for years to build my collection, but their latest payment update completely ruins it.
eBay just stopped letting people buy things with gift cards. This isn't just an inconvenience. For me, and a ton of other buyers, gift cards were the only way to manage a hobby budget, keep transactions secure, and not overspend. By banning them, eBay basically just locked a huge group of us out of buying anything at all.
There are so many reasons people use gift cards. Some people don’t have traditional bank accounts, some want the privacy, and others just use them to cap their spending so they don't break the bank. Dropping this option out of nowhere, without a backup plan, completely screws over a massive chunk of their customer base.
Every other major shopping site figures out how to take gift cards safely, so there's no reason eBay can't do the same. It's a win-win for everyone: buyers get the payment flexibility they need, and eBay gets to keep our business.
