Petition for Commutation Alex Valentine!

The Issue

Request

We offer the opportunity to sign this petition for the commutation of Alexander Valentine’s sentence of Life Without Parole (LWOP), asking that he be granted the opportunity to demonstrate his suitability for release before the Board. This is a plea for mercy—and a call to recognize the power of transformation, civic responsibility, and living amends.

Crime and Journey
In August 1996, at the age of 18, Alex committed a tragic double homicide, taking the lives of his own parents. The gravity of this act is undeniable, and its pain reverberated through his family and community. For years, Alex compounded that harm through denial and emotional distance from those left behind. These were choices—just as the choices he makes today reflect remorse, growth, and a commitment to service.

Who He Is Today
Now 30 years into his incarceration, Alex resides in a Level II dorm and has become a pillar of leadership and learning within his facility. He has earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and is finishing an MBA track this fall. He serves as a certified Peer Literacy Mentor, a GOGI community coach, and a Braille Transcriber for ATPC. He is a mentor in the institution’s Life After Prison reentry program and the senior organizer for Democracy Beyond Bars, which advocates for education and social awareness to create wellness in the community—leading to prisons becoming obsolete. His personal advocacy focus is raising awareness about the impact of domestic violence and preventing violence against women.

Why This Matters
This petition is not just about one man’s hope—it’s about what that hope represents. In a time when isolation and disappointment have deepened across society, we need change agents who understand hopelessness and are committed to healing it. Alex’s transformation is a testament to the power of education, accountability, and service. His life, if given the chance, could be a living example of redemption and civic contribution.

Call to Action
Support this petition—not only for Alex, but for what it says to every person who has made grave mistakes: that through sincere effort, growth, and service, they can still matter. They can still contribute. They can still be part of the solution.

Please sign and share your support for Alexander Valentine’s commutation. Let mercy be a reflection of what is possible when a life is rebuilt in service to others.
