PETITION FOR CLEMENCY CONSIDERATION

PETITION FOR CLEMENCY CONSIDERATION
The Issue
**WE, THE UNDERSIGNED, RESIDENTS OF SOMERVELL COUNTY AND JOHNSON COUNTY, TEXAS,
RESPECTFULLY PETITION AS FOLLOWS:**
I. PURPOSE OF THIS PETITION
We respectfully request your assistance in bringing the case of Luke Resecker to the attention of President Donald J. Trump and Texas Governor Abbott for consideration of executive clemency, sentence commutation, or other appropriate relief based on compassion, proportional justice, and rehabilitation.
We understand you do not have the authority to alter a sentence directly. However, given your close working relationship with the President and your deep roots in this community, we humbly ask for your help in ensuring this case receives thoughtful and compassionate federal review.
II. DEFINITION AND CONTEXT OF THE INCIDENT
An accident is defined as an unintended, unforeseen event occurring without malice, intent, or premeditation. The incident involving Luke Resecker on U.S. Highway 67 was a tragic accident, not an act of intentional harm.
While the consequences were devastating and irrevocable, a single, catastrophic mistake, not criminal intent or a pattern of dangerous behavior, caused them.
III. AGE, BACKGROUND, AND CHARACTER OF LUKE RESECKER
Luke Resecker was 17 years old at the time of the accident.
He had no prior criminal history.
He sustained serious physical injuries in the crash and continues to bear lifelong emotional and psychological consequences.
Despite the devastation, Luke completed high school, continued forward with his education, and has remained on a path of healing and personal responsibility.
His life has already permanently changed in ways that only God can undo.
A 65-year sentence effectively removes all realistic opportunity for rehabilitation, growth, or redemption — outcomes that are widely recognized as critical when sentencing juveniles.
IV. COMMUNITY AND TAXPAYER CONCERNS
As residents and taxpayers of Somervell and Johnson Counties:
We believe in accountability balanced with mercy.
We do not believe that permanently incarcerating a young man for a single tragic accident serves the long-term interests of justice, public safety, or responsible use of public resources.
We believe Luke is capable of rehabilitation and meaningful contribution if given the opportunity.
V. DANGEROUS ROADWAY CONDITIONS
The accident occurred on a known dangerous stretch of U.S. Highway 67, a roadway that has been the site of multiple serious and fatal crashes over many years.
Notably, Rhonda Cagle, a beloved Glen Rose educator, lost her life in a wreck in this same general area — further highlighting long-standing safety concerns on this stretch of road.
These recurring tragedies point to systemic roadway hazards that continue to endanger drivers and compound the risk of accidents, particularly for young motorists.
VI. SPECIAL APPEAL TO BROOKE LESLIE (ROLLINS)
Brooke, you grew up in Glen Rose. You know this road. You know this community. You understand that these tragedies are not isolated events, but part of an ongoing safety issue affecting countless families.
We respectfully ask that you use your unique position to bring this petition and Luke Resecker’s case to President Trump and or Governor Abbott, so that it may receive fair and compassionate consideration for clemency or sentence reduction.
VII. PETITION REQUEST
Therefore, we respectfully petition that:
President Donald J. Trump reviews this case; As well as Governor Abbott.
Considers commutation or clemency based on:
Luke’s youth at the time of the accident
His lack of prior criminal history
His injuries and demonstrated efforts toward rehabilitation
The accidental nature of the incident
Known roadway safety issues in the area
VIII. CONCLUSION
This petition does not seek to erase tragedy or diminish loss. Instead, it seeks a measured response rooted in justice, mercy, and the belief that a young life should not be defined forever by a single tragic mistake.
We respectfully ask for your help.
